This tireless traveller is one of my favourite birds. Its long wings, deeply forked tail and the apparent ease and elegance of its flight make it a pleasure to watch and photograph, no matter how many times I encounter one.

My encounters
Although Arctic Terns can be encountered along the coast and around the islands of the northern Netherlands, some of my most memorable encounters have been at Polder Breebaart. There, I have had the opportunity to photograph them during their constant flights between the sea and their nesting area, returning again and again with food. Watching them in continuous motion makes photographing them both challenging and rewarding.
