Barn Swallow

Back under the rafters each spring

The Barn Swallow has a deep red throat, a glossy blue back and long streamers on its forked tail. It hunts insects low over meadows and water, twisting and turning just above the grass.

Each spring, after the winter in Africa, many come back to the same barn or stable, and to the cup of mud they built under the beams the year before.
