Through my lens
A red shield among the water plants
The Moorhen is dark, with a red forehead shield, a yellow-tipped bill and a white line along its flank. On long green toes it walks across floating leaves and along the muddy edges of ditches and ponds.
When it swims its head jerks back and forth, and it keeps flicking its tail to show the white underneath. It lives on almost any patch of water, big or small.
