Through my lens
Black, white and a bill like a carrot
The Oystercatcher is black and white, with an orange-red bill, a red eye and pink legs. It is also one of the noisiest birds around, and its piercing "kleep" calls go up at every disturbance.
On the coast it hammers or prises open cockles and mussels; inland it probes the grass for worms. It nests on beaches, in fields and sometimes on flat gravel roofs.
