European Greenfinch

Olive green with a flash of yellow

The Greenfinch is a sturdy, olive-green finch with a heavy pale bill and bright yellow edges to its wings and tail. It is a regular at garden feeders, in parks and along hedgerows.

In spring the male delivers a long, nasal "dzweee" from a treetop, or flies in slow, looping circles with exaggerated, bat-like wingbeats.
