European Herring Gull

Laughter over the harbour

The Herring Gull is the big, silver-grey gull of the coast, with black wingtips, pink legs and a red spot on its yellow bill. Its loud, laughing calls are part of every harbour and beach.

It will eat almost anything and quickly learns where food can be found. Young birds are mottled brown and take about four years to reach adult plumage.
