The grey ghost of the forest
The Goshawk is a big, powerful hawk of woodland, built for short, fast chases between the trunks. It hunts by surprise, flying low and fast and using the trees as cover.
An adult has a pale stripe over a fierce orange eye, which gives it a stern, frowning look. It is secretive for most of the year and is usually seen only briefly, if at all.
