Through my lens
Adaptable, and found almost everywhere
No wild carnivore has a larger range. Red Foxes live from the Arctic to the edge of the desert, in forests and farmland, and in plenty of cities too. The orange coat, the white tip on the tail and the black "stockings" give them away.
They eat what they can get. Mice and voles are caught with that high, arching pounce, but rabbits, birds, insects, earthworms, berries and fruit all go down as well. Most hunting happens around dawn and dusk.
The cubs are born in early spring in an earth, often an old rabbit burrow dug out a bit wider. By May they start coming out to play near the entrance.
