Light wings over the marsh
The Whiskered Tern is a small, pale grey tern with a black cap and a white cheek. It flies low over marshes and lakes, turning into the wind and dipping down to pick insects and tiny fish from the surface.
Its nest is a heap of plant material floating among the water plants, and the colonies are full of harsh, rasping calls.
