Through my lens
A short rest in the shallows
The Wood Sandpiper is slim and finely speckled, with a clear pale stripe above the eye and yellowish legs. It wades through shallow pools and flooded grassland, picking small insects from the surface.
It breeds in northern bogs and forest marshes and passes through on its way to and from Africa. When flushed it goes off with a bright, quick "chiff-iff-iff".
